Jaguar Racing heeft online zijn gloednieuwe volledig elektrische raceauto onthuld: de Jaguar I-TYPE 5. Dat gebeurde vijftig dagen voor de start van het zevende seizoen van het ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
De elektrische monoposto is voorzien van een nieuwe aandrijflijn, die volledig door Jaguar zelf is ontwikkeld en die het de komende twee seizoenen van het wereldkampioenschap inzet. De ingenieurs van Jaguar Racing hebben zich vooral op een betere efficiency gericht, evenals op minder gewicht en een lager zwaartepunt van de aandrijflijn van de Jaguar I-TYPE 5. De nieuwe wielophanging biedt meer mogelijkheden om de instellingen per circuit aan te passen. Een nieuwe inverter, die de gelijkstroom in de accu sneller omzet in wisselstroom voor de motor, zorgt voor nog betere prestaties. De inverter bevat 24-karaat goud omdat dit materiaal optimaal stroom geleidt.
Sam Bird en Mitch Evans – een van de sterkste rijderskoppels in de Formula E – zijn de coureurs van Jaguar Racing. Evans rijdt al voor Jaguar Racing sinds het team in 2016 zijn intrede in het elektrische kampioenschap deed. Bird, die elk seizoen van Formula E races heeft gewonnen, rijdt komend seizoen voor het eerst voor Jaguar Racing.
Jaguar Racing is trots dat het toonaangevende chemiebedrijf Dow voor het eerst Official Partner is van Jaguar Racing in het ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Dow brengt meer dan honderd jaar materiaalkennis en ervaring in de auto-industrie mee naar Jaguar Racing, via het MobilityScienceTM-platform en expertise op het gebied van polyolefin-, polyurethaan-acryl- en specifieke chemische en siliconentechnologie.
Dow wordt een van de toonaangevende partners van Jaguar Racing, samen met GKN Automotive, Viessmann en Castrol en Official Suppliers Alpinestars en DR1VA.
Jaguar Racing is trots op de presentatie van het nieuwe duurzame materiaal TYPEFIBRE. Vanaf het begin van komend seizoen van Formula E monteert Jaguar Racing in de I-TYPE 5 prototypes van racestoelen die zijn gemaakt van het duurzaam gewonnen materiaal. De stoelen worden tijdens races overal ter wereld op snelheid en bij uiteenlopende temperaturen en belastingen beproefd – dat alles in het kader van Jaguars missie Race to Innovate. Zo kan Jaguar nieuwe technologie uit de racerij toepassen in zijn productieauto’s, zodat ook de klanten van Jaguar ervan profiteren.

De eerste race van seizoen 7 van het ABB FIA Formula E World Championship vindt plaats op 16 januari 2021 in Santiago, Chili – de eerste van veertien races in twaalf steden.
