• SRT finishes twice in the top 6 at Brands-Hatch
  • Collaboration with Mercedes-AMG continues to get better

SRT, the team run by father and son Selleslagh has been a reference in the international GT racing world for many years. This season the Merchtem based structure is making a comeback at the highest level. As a Customer team of AMG Motorsport SRT is entering no less than three Mercedes-AMG GT4 in the rapid growing GT4 European Series. This last weekend three German GT machines were at work in England, on the legendary Brands-Hatch circuit. Johan Vannerum and Nicolas Vandierendonck on the one hand and Louis-Philippe Soenen on the other are the regular drivers in the Stuttgart machines while the Dutch-Belgian duo Bas Koeten and Ward Sluys were making their debut with the Mercedes-AMG on the sun drenched English circuit. Together they proved to be fast duos, with a 6th and 4th place in both races.

For the second of the six European meetings more than 40 cars were at the start In Brands-Hatch, living proof that this is definitely a top EuropeanGT4 series in the future. Among the 40 cars the three SRT Mercedes–AMG GT4 were on hand.

New duo head off for the podium

The weekend’s first race in the GT4 European Cup was not one that went smoothly. Accidents, a safety car and then a race that was interrupted some ten minutes before the end were the race’s ingredients on Sunday morning.

Patrick Selleslagh: “Our team managed to successfully avoid the various incidents and the Koeten–Sluys duo drove a strong race. The upcoming Dutchman is definitely an asset for the championship and forms a homogenous duo with Ward. They finally finished in sixth place, with in my opinion still a margin for improvement, which means that the podium should be within reach. Johan and Nicolas produced a great race in the Am-category and crossed the line in third spot, however an infringement of the pit stop regulations resulted in having to hand in that podium place. Last but not least there is Louis-Philippe who is consistently improving and now finds himself lying in the op 10 in his category.

Stranded within a hair’s breadth of the podium

The second race took place on Sunday midday and for the Vannerum-Vandierendonck car the race did not evolve well. In the course of the race they were forced to throw in the towel, a great pity for the duo that in the AM-category is definitely one of the title contenders. Louis-Philippe Soenen confirmed what he had already shown in the first race, namely that the growth potential is truly there. The West-Flanders based driver crossed the line in sixth place in the AM-category and was delighted. Ward Sluys and Bas Koeten drove a strong race, with an awesome start put in by the Dutchman who called into the pits as race leader. Ward Sluys needed to find the right rhythm, but managed to end the race in fourth place, a strong performance for the GT4 rookies!

The following race take place from 22nd through tot 24th June in the Italian Misano.
